Cancer Resource Center of the Desert (CRCD)

provides FREE services to men, women, and  children of all ages diagnosed with cancer,  living  in Imperial Valley, and who face challenges like:

  • Initial emotional crisis upon receiving the cancer diagnosis:  CRCD provides emotional support. Increases knowledge about the specific diagnosis.  
  • Fear of the implications of the cancer diagnosis:  CRCD utilizes tools from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) & other national organizations, educates the patient and family.
  • Difficulty understanding the cancer diagnosis:  CRCD uses specialized tools to review specific information about diagnostic work-ups, staging, treatment options, etc. At patient’s request, assist with information on obtaining a 2nd opinion.
  • Difficulty understanding the treatment process: CRCD educates the patient & family about the specific treatment plan associated with their diagnosis & provides them with educational materials.
  • Difficulty communicating with physicians: CRCD assists the patient/ families to communicate their questions, concerns, and other important information to their physicians through counseling.  At patient’s request, CRCD also will speak to the physician on the patient’s behalf or communicate via memos or letters to the physician.
  • Language/Cultural differences:  CRCD staff is bilingual (English/Spanish) and bi-cultural. CRCD educates patients in their language, addressing cultural issues. 
  • Lack of insurance or underinsured:  If uninsured, CRCD assists the patient to apply for medical coverage including specialized State programs for certain cancer types. If underinsured, CRCD determines if there are co-pay relief programs the patient is eligible for and assist in the application process.
  • Lack of adequate transportation: CRCD determines if the patient is eligible for transportation assistance through local programs & applies on their behalf when eligible; will register & apply to national organizations that provide specific transportation assistance; augments those services with complimentary gas cards.
  • Reduced Income due to diagnosis& treatment: Consideration of State & Federal programs the patient may be eligible for including State Disability Insurance, Social Security Disability, & Supplemental Security Income & assistance in applying for such programs when needed.

Ofrece Servicios Gratuitos a hombres, mujeres, y niños de todas edades con diagnóstico de cáncer, que viven en el Valle Imperial,

Y Que enfrentan situaciones como:

  • Crisis emocional inicial al recibir su diagnóstico de cáncer: CRCD ofrece apoyo emocional y educación específica sobre su diagnóstico.
  • Temor a lo que implica ser diagnosticado con cáncer: CRCD utiliza información de National Cancer Institute (NCI) y otras organizaciones nacionales que ayudan a educar al paciente y su familia.

  • Dificultad para comprender el diagnóstico de cáncer: CRCD utiliza instrumentos especiales para revisar la información específica acerca del diagnóstico, etapa, opciones de tratamiento, etc. A petición del paciente, CRCD le orienta para obtener una segunda opinión. 

  • Dificultad  para comprender el proceso del tratamiento: CRCD educa al paciente y su familia sobre el plan de tratamiento específico asociado a su diagnóstico, y les proporciona materiales educativos.

  • Dificultad en la comunicación con el médico: CRCD ayuda al paciente y familiares para comunicar sus preguntas, preocupaciones, y cualquier otra información importante a su médico a través de orientación. A petición del paciente, profesionales de CRCD hablarán con el médico o se comunicarán con él a través de notas o cartas en nombre del paciente.   

  • Idioma/diferencias culturales: CRCD cuenta con personal bilingüe (Ingles/ Español) y bicultural. CRCD educa al paciente en su lengua natal, respetando su cultura. 

  • Falta de seguro médico o seguro médico insuficiente: Si el paciente no tiene seguro médico, CRCD ayuda al paciente a solicitar la cobertura médica, incluyendo los programas estatales especializados para ciertos tipos de cáncer. Si el paciente está asegurado pero tiene seguro médico insuficiente, CRCD determina si existe un programa que minimice el co-pago y ayuda a sus pacientes en el proceso de solicitud. 

  • Falta de transportación adecuada: CRCD determina si el paciente es elegible para recibir asistencia de transporte a través de programas locales y les ayuda en el proceso de  aplicación, registrándolos, y solicitando a organizaciones nacionales que proporciona asistencia en transportación. CRCD apoya a los pacientes con un servicio complementario de tarjetas de gasolina.

  • Reducción de ingreso debido al diagnóstico y tratamiento: A consideración de programas estatales y federales, el paciente puede ser elegible para programas  como State Disability Insurance, Supplemental Security Income, y Social Security Disability Income. CRCD ayuda en el proceso de aplicación en el momento necesario.
